On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Boulder three 8th grade girls from Cadette Troop 938 organized a presentation at Meadows Public library to raise awareness about Global Education Fund and conclude their Book Drive. They invited friends and family to come and share a lovely spread of delicious cupcakes, cookies and lemonade. Luckily, I was asked to be there along with two other representatives from Global Education Fund -Tracy Mangone, our CU intern, and Caroline Joyce, our student ambassador.
Jessica, Sarah and Tara had worked hard to collect books during a month long Book Drive. They collected books from three schools in Boulder - Southern Hills, Manhattan and Eisenhower. They also generously decided to donate the money they had raised during their Girl Scout cookie sale to GEF. They presented a check to GEF for $260 - amazing!
We showed a short video on the work that GEF is doing for children around the world and especially girls in Kenya. Then I shared some personal experiences with them about our scholars in Kenya. The group asked many great questions about GEF and the children we serve. It was a wonderful way to see how thoughtful, hardworking girls in Boulder, Colorado can have such a meaningful impact on girls in Nairobi, Kenya.
Cheers,
